SAMMAKA--SARAKKA JATARA
Is likely to be declared as National festival.
Once it declared as National festival ,it will be considered for INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF HUMANITY TAG OF UNESCO.
IT IS THE LARGEST TRIBAL FESTIVAL held biannually in the District Medaram of state Telengana.
It is held in the honour of twin goddesses SAMMAKA--SARAKKA.
Several communities in Telengana society support Jatra as it is a mythical narrative of two tribal women leaders who fought against the KAKATIYA rulers who tried to annex their land and forests.
According to the myth it was Sammakka's curse which caused gradual decline and death of Kakatiya rule.
#Medaram is the remote place in the ETURNAGARAMA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY, a part of DANDAKRANYA,the largest surviving forest belt in the Deccan.
