JOSHIMATH is a City located in Chamoli District Uttrakhand. It's home to one of the pithas established by Adi Shankara.

Its gateway to sites like Badrinath and Hemkund.

Since 2021, the area was affected by Uttrakhand flood, entire town was declared sinking due to its topographic location and continued human interference with environment in that region.

In 2021, glacial outburst caused by Nanda Devi glacier effected entire Chamoli district.

In the aftermath, the buildings in the entire area developed cracks, and eventually some of the areas were evacuated due  to severe threat to life of local population.

In recent development due to  continuous land subsidence  and severe threat to life, Joshimath has been declared disaster prone area.

According to the reports, more than 600 buildings have developed severe cracks and many families have been  relocated.

A part from that National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Geological survey of India (GSI)and many other research institutes have been tasked to study and give recommendation on situation regarding Joshimath.

Relief and rescue operation has been intensified after it was declared subsidence hit zone.

National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad and Institute of Remote sensing, have been asked to conduct survey of the area through satellite imagery and submit reports.

The main cause of subsidence in Joshimath is primarily caused due to Tapovan Vishnugad Hydro power Project.

This is high time when we people have to understand the  affects of climatic changes  and have to stop messing with it.
